Katie & Calum’s Stunning Sharpham House Wedding in Devon
Katie and Calum’s wedding at Sharpham House was nothing short of breathtaking. Set in the heart of Devon’s rolling countryside, this historic venue provided the perfect backdrop for their relaxed and joy-filled celebration. They tied the knot at Petrox Church in Dartmouth, a beautiful church overlooking the mouth of the River Dart, before heading back to Sharpham House for a sun-soaked reception filled with laughter, cocktails, and live music.
As a Sharpham House wedding photographer and now I can call myself a Devon wedding photographer (bonus points), I love capturing weddings in this incredible part of the country. Devon offers some of the most scenic and character-filled venues, and Sharpham House is no exception. With its mix of grand interiors, stunning views, and natural beauty, it’s a dream setting for a documentary-style approach. The morning light pouring through the windows was perfect for capturing the atmosphere of the bridal and groom prep. I spent the morning moving between different levels of the house, quietly documenting the little stories unfolding—laughter among friends, final touches to the dress, and quiet moments of anticipation. One of my favorite shots was Katie making her way down the elegant spiral staircase. Rather than asking her to stop and pose, I positioned myself to capture the moment naturally as it happened, allowing her to simply experience the day without interruption.
For the ceremony, we traveled in style—riding through Devon’s winding country lanes in a classic VW camper van. The weather gave us a brief moment of uncertainty with a sudden downpour, but the clouds cleared just in time, blessing us with sunshine for the rest of the day. It was my first time photographing a wedding at Petrox Church, and I was blown away by its setting. Overlooking the water, the church is an intimate and peaceful place for a ceremony. As always, I worked discreetly, looking for those small but meaningful moments—a squeeze of the hand, a glance over the shoulder, a spontaneous burst of laughter. These are the moments that truly tell the story of a wedding day.
Back at Sharpham House, guests enjoyed an afternoon of drinks, garden games, and some of the most stunning views Devon has to offer. One of the highlights of the evening was the live band, which brought an incredible energy to the party. Seeing everyone come together on the dance floor, completely lost in the music, was a brilliant way to wrap up the day.
